Wow. It's the end of 2010. I am really excited about 2011. Genuinally excited. 2010 had some really tough times, but also some really great times. I can't say I am too sad to see the end of 2010, and to move into 2011 with the power of positivity and peacefulness.
2011 also sees a new direction in the classes I have been teaching at Scraptivate. For almost two years now I have been teaching Tiled Collage pieces, and whilst I still love making these pieces it is time for something new. I have always kept a journal, sometimes on paper, sometimes on my computer .... and in more recent times in an artistic form. It has always been something I have kept fairly much to myself but I have decided to take the plunge and begin teaching Art Journalling classes at Scraptivate.
I don't work in an actual book like many do when keeping an art journal. Rather I like to just make individual pages which I later bind into a book. The classes will be fortnightly on a Saturday and a Wednesday, with a different art technique the focus each class, as well as a journalling prompt. I will share a couple of my own pages based on the focal technique and participants will be free to create their own page using the technique.
I have a number of people already signed up to participate in the new classes which start in just a couple of weeks. If you are interested in joining in click here for more information of dates / times / prices and give the store a call on 9444 6626 to book yourself in.
So I suppose you want to see what we are doing in the first couple of classes? Here's a look ...
We start off with a class to construct the covers of what will eventually be your bound Art Journal. It's no worries at all if you can't make this first class or join in some time down the track, as I will teach Journal Cover classes throughout the year.
There are a number of techniques used on the cover - stamping, painting, collage .... we use Golden Fluid Acrylics, gesso, Smooch inks, patterned papers and more to achieve the result. I had so much fun creating the cover and will be creating a couple more to give you more ideas before the first class.
The cover says "Create Art, Enjoy the Journey." Quite apt, don't you think?
In the next class we will create the first page of our journal using gesso, distress inks and glimmer sprays to create magnificent texture to the page.
And amongst all this Art Journalling, teaching and working I have a wedding to plan! 4 months to plan a wedding ... can it be done? Well I think so yes ....
Here's to 2011 everyone. Wishing you all a beautiful happy new year filled with laughter, happiness, love and peace.
